实验室简介
本实验室是在光信息科学与技术学科领域主要从事应用基础研究的科技创新和人才培养基地。本实验室的历史渊源可以追溯到上世纪60年代。1988年本实验室被确定为邮电部重点实验室，1998年邮电部和电子工业部合并组建了信息产业部，本实验室随之变更为信息产业部重点实验室。随后，北京邮电大学划转为教育部直属高校，本实验室经过整合和扩充又于2003年成为教育部重点实验室。2011年3月科技部同意本实验室立项建设“信息光子学与光通信国家重点实验室（北京邮电大学）”。
本实验室的创始人为我国著名光通信与微波通信专家、中国科学院院士叶培大教授。叶先生于1964年即在国内率先开展了大气光通信的研究工作，继而又不失时机地带领实验室进入了信息光子学与光纤通信研究领域。经过长期的努力和积淀，实验室逐渐形成了基础探索与工程技术相辅相成、光子学与光通信“驱”“牵”互动、光通信与光信息处理交叉融合的研究格局，营造了“执著出奇，团结致胜”的学术氛围，取得了一系列重要的研究成果，在国内外产生了广泛的影响。近年来，诺贝尔物理学奖获得者若列斯·伊·阿尔费罗夫院士担任了本实验室名誉主任，“阿尔费罗夫信息光电子学与纳异质结构中俄联合实验室”正式成立运行，实验室研究工作的基础性和前瞻性进一步加强.目前，实验室全体同仁正在“与光同行”的道路上向着更高的目标奋进、攀登。
Brief Introduction to the Lab
The Lab is oriented as a base for both scientific research and talent training in the disciplinary field of Opto-Information Science and Technologies. The history of the Lab can be traced back to 1960s. In 1988, it was authorized to be a Key Laboratory by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT). In 1998, the MPT and the Ministry of Electronic Industry were combined together and reconstructed as the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and thus the Lab became a Key Laboratory of MII. Thereafter, BUPT turned to be affiliated to the Ministry of Education (MOE) and then the Lab, after reorganization and strengthening, was qualified to be a Key Laboratory of MOE in 2003. In March 2011, the Ministry of Science and Technology authorized the upgrading of the Lab to the state level and entitled it as State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications (Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications).
The founder of the Lab is Prof. Peida YE, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the most famous Chinese scientist for optical communications and microwave communications. He begin his research work on atmospheric optical communication as the pioneer in China in 1964 and soon after decided timely to shift the major research interest of the Lab to the field of photonic information and optical fiber communications. As the result of a long period of accumulation and “deposition” of the hard efforts made by all the lab members, the features of the research works in the Lab have been formed as “complementary combination of the fundamental research and the engineering or technological innovation, mutual promotion in a driving-traction manner between photonics and optical communications, mixing and integration of optical communications and optical signal processing”. Meanwhile, an enjoyable academic atmosphere has been cultivated with the belief “Perseverance yields miracle and team spirit leads to success”. A series of remarkable achievements have been obtained and the contributions from the Lab have been widely recognized at home and abroad. In recent years, Nobel Laureate Prof. Zhores I. ALFEROV has assumed the Honorary Director of the Lab and Zh. I. Alferov Russian-Chinese Joint Laboratory of Information Optoelectronics and Nanoheterostructures has been formally established and come into running. The research works in the Lab have been strengthened with deeper fundamentality and further perspectiveness. Towards the higher and fresher target, climbing with greater efforts, all members of the Lab are presently hurrying themselves up on the way - “Progressing with the Light”.
